Romancing History One Story At A Time

Love At First Type synposis! November 3, 2012

Filed under: Angela's Work In Progress — angelarosebooks @ 2:29 am

Living in an abusive relationship, single mom and widow, Vanessa Bradford struggles to find a way out of the dire situation.   At every turn her live-in boyfriend, Kevin thwarts her attempt to leave or her many attempts to become self-sufficient and provide for her and her son, Evan.   The oppression and violence is increasing with each passing day, and Vanessa begins to doubt that she’ll escape alive.  What she needs is a knight in shining armor to swoop in and save them.

Carson Matthews is a divorced and a father of one. After discovering his ex-wife’s infidelity, he has labeled all women in the same catergory…..cheaters.    Once he settles his divorce and business matters in the U.S., he returns to the U.K. where he grew up.  When he meets up with a former childhood friend, Dante Lewis, Carson is quickly sucked into the vast world of internet scamming.   Distrusting of all women, Carson flourishes in his new role, as Carson Sellers “International Contractor”, and is nicknamed “Casanova” by his new colleagues.

Carson took one look at the profile of his latest conquest, and decided she was the perfect candidate for a scam.  For one, she was a single mom.  They were always desperate to find attention, and no husband to interfere, and 2) she was the stereotypical image of his ex-wife.  Self-absorbed and vain, or was she?  Daily Vanessa prays for deliverance from the domestic violence of her situation, so when a message arrives from a very attractive and successful businessman on a social website she attempts to reply, but hesitates before sending it.  The fear that Kevin had instilled over the last two years weighed heavily upon her decision. To send or delete?  What if this man was the answer to their prayers, and he only a click away?

NaNo WriMo Progress!

Filed under: Angela Rose Books Blog — angelarosebooks @ 2:20 am

Its day two of NaNo WriMo and all I have accomplished is my synposis!  The synposis!!!!!  Usually I drag my feet with the synposis, but for some reason this one just came to me and easy!  I hope that means the novel will complete itself even easier!  So that means I’m down on my word count by two days!! What to do, what to do?   Yeah, I know…………………….write!!!!!

Practice Makes Perfect! October 29, 2012

Its only a few short days away from the start of NaNo WriMo!!!  For those of you who are not familiar with NaNo WriMo it stands for National Novel Writing Month!  It begins on November 1st and runs until the 30th.   www.nanowrimo.orgNaNo WriMo challenges anyone to write a novel or at least begin a novel in 30 days.  Their focus is the word count, and not so much content.  I’m OCD………..this is an aspect of writing I have struggle with.  I just want to get the story out, and I want perfection the first time.  Totally not realistic!

This will be the first year I participate!  What makes this year different?  I was introduced to NaNo WriMo last year, and thought there is just no way I’m going to be able write 50k words in one month.   After a year of working on my novels, I realized I have a horrible habit.  I edit as I write the first draft of a manuscript!  Not that its wrong, but it surely slows down my word count.  There is always times for revisions later 🙂

So not only am I giving myself a 50k word goal, I’m giving myself the goal of focusing on getting my story onto paper, or in my case into Microsoft Word!

Good luck to all those who are planning on participating!

Week 18: The Next Big Thing! October 24, 2012

Filed under: Angela Rose Books Blog,Angela's Work In Progress — angelarosebooks @ 2:17 pm

Thanks to Lindsay Avalon for inviting me to my first ever Blog Hop!!!  You can check out Lindsay’s Facebook page and blog at the following links! and

  1. What is the working title of your book?

I’m currently working on my first novella “Into The Widow’s Web”

     2.  Where did the idea come from for the book?

I’m a big lover of Scottish history.  As I began research on another WIP, I came across Marjory, Countess of Carrick’s story.   Marjory, Countess of Carrick was the mother of King Robert Bruce.  Rumor has it that a handsome Scottish knight arrived at Turnberry Castle to bring her the news that her husband had died in The Crusades.   Marjory’s response………..she held the knight hostage until he agreed to marry her.  Apparently, it was love at first sight 😉  I love a heroine who knows what she wants and just takes it!

      3.  What genre does your book fall under?

It definitely falls under Historical Romance

      4.  Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I would definitely pick Jake Gyllenhaal as my Robbie!!!  I loved him in the Prince of Persia!

I’m a big Natalie Portman fan, and I loved it when she starred in that very “off the wall” movie Your Highness!  As soon as I saw her with the bow and a quiver full of arrows………….she was my inspiration behind Marjory!!

       5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A young countess gives up her one chance at true love,  but before she can right the wrong from the past, her life takes a downward spiral when her infant daughter vanishes into thin air with three other infants.

       6.  Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Still researching both, but an agency would be so much easier!!!

       7.  How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Since this is my first book, I’m not working under any deadlines……….I took my time!  I finished the first draft in 6 months.

       8.  What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I won’t compare myself to Monica McCarty as a writer.  I love her work and its near flawless.  I love the historical accuracy she brings to all her titles.  So any of her Scottish themed romance novels is what I would compare it too.

      9.  Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Again………I’m going to Monica McCarty.  I love all her books and it was definitely the knowledge and love for 13th Century Scotland that inspired me to dig deeper into its history.

     10.  What else about your book might pique your readers?

Into The Widow’s Web is a prequel novella to my Vanishing Heiress Series.  There will be a time travel twist  involved, and all my heroines will be reunited with their soul mates.  All extremely Hot Highlanders!

Deadlines! October 20, 2012

Filed under: Angela Rose Books Blog — angelarosebooks @ 4:30 am

I have to admit the world of writing and publishing can make a new writer feel daunted at times.   However, I’m so excited for this new challenge in my life.  As I work at my leisure, I have to say the butterflies in my stomach definitely do a flip-flop, when I  spot a Facebook post from an author and it says “Only on FB for a short time………I have a deadline.  Catch up with everyone later.” , and the one I saw today “I’m so sick and I have a book due in two weeks.”  Yikes!!

At this point my journey with writing hasn’t dealt me any deadlines, and I’m thankful for that small gift.  I consider myself a person who works extremely well under pressure, so I plan on meeting those deadlines very professionally.  Please don’t ask my husband how I would carry on when doing my English Literature homework in college.   LOL!!!   Major meltdowns when the words wouldn’t come 🙂

Well, with the exception of my kids and doing book reviews for Satin Sheets Romance, I have never had a deadline.   Not bad for someone who has been 29 years old for the last 16 years 😉   All in all, I’m sure things will work themselves out.  The most important thing is that my children see me achieving my dreams and goals, no matter what juncture I am at in life.    Back to my writing cave 🙂

Trying Out Contemporary! October 17, 2012

Heading to the library to get some writing done on my WIP, but the question is which one?!  I have two in progress, but I think I’m going to work on the “Challenge” submission for Decadent Publishing.    I’ve called it “Through Thick and Thin”.  Of course, we know how it goes with titles.  🙂

So I love any and everything about Scotland………..particularly the kilted men.  Okay, I love the castles and the romance of the whole country, as well.  Right now, I am 14,000 words into my first novella that is based in 13th Century Scotland!  I was so bummed in my research to find out that kilts weren’t even worn in the 13th Century!!!  So its trews, tunics and splash plaid for my hero in this book!
